UKRAINIAN CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES NEED HELP!

Participation in the ERN workshop on fetal and postnatal management in rare diseases

On June 4-6, 2023, a workshop on fetal and postnatal management in rare diseases (myelomeningocele and lower urinary tract obstruction) was held in Krakow, Poland.

Due to the cooperation program of OMNI-Net, International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IFSBH), and European Reference Network “Rare Urogenital Diseases & Complex Conditions” (ERN eUROGEN) aiming to improve clinical care, quality of life and prevention of spinal dysraphisms and other related disorders in Ukraine, two specialists of the Khmelnytsky City Children’s Hospital (Svitlana Radchenko, pediatric urologist, and Ihor Boyko, pediatric neurosurgeon) participated in the seminar.

During the workshop, there were actively discussed some issues of prenatal diagnosis, fetal treatment, postsurgical monitoring of the fetus and mother, postpartum nephrological and urological monitoring and care.

Congenital lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) and myelomeningocele (MMC) are different pathologies, but both have a huge impact on kidney function. Patients with such defects require a proactive nephrological and multidisciplinary approach, functional urological monitoring and treatment to preserve kidney and bladder functions from birth and throughout life.

We express our gratitude to the participants and organizers of the event:
